Brooklyn Botanic Garden

Many botanic gardens exist all over the world. But there are a few which are among the best. Singapore Botanical Gardens top the list, and Brooklyn Botanic Garden is the second best. It features various global plants, trees, grass, ferns, and gardens over 52 acres of land.

Once you enter this garden, the hustle and bustle of New York streets become a distant memory. You become engrossed with mother nature in her purest evergreen form. The entire park has various segments with a vast collection of plants. Various small, well-manicured gardens within this structural garden are magnificent. The walkways and trails are clean and tidy.

The Cherry Esplanade in the park is well known for its colourful cherry blossoms. People flock to the Brooklyn Garden in spring to witness the collection of blooms of cherry blossoms. Beautiful cherry blossom trees provide a perfect backdrop for magnificent wedding functions, wedding proposals, engagements, or photo shoots.

Woodland Garden: A woodland ecosystem is a diverse landscape of tall trees, smaller trees, shrubs, flowering perennials, ferns, and grasses. A tall layer of trees provides a green canopy for small trees, ferns, bushes, and grass underneath. Small trees under the big trees have learned to survive under the shade spreading their leaves wide to get the sunlight. The big trees have a large footprint below the ground with an extensive root network. The roots hold the soil and prevent erosion.

Cranford Rose Garden: This garden holds a variety of multiple coloured roses. Roses were in peak blooms when we visited this garden in May. The spectacular garden attracts bees, butterflies, and visitors who capture the colourful roses on their iPhones, iPads, and cameras. The lovely breeze that sweeps through the park touches you gently, and the aroma captivates you.

Shakespeare Garden:   This garden contains trees, shrubs, flowers, and herbs mentioned in William Shakespeare’s plays and poems. It has edible plants and medicinal plants alongside decorative plants. Various quotes from Shakespeare’s plays are on display here.

Fragrance Garden: An ideal place for the visually impaired to touch, smell and connect with nature. The theme of the garden bed is scented leaves, fragrant flowers, plants for the touch, and kitchen herbs.

Japanese Hill and Pond Garden:  This garden models a traditional Japanese garden. The Shinto temple, a red wooden structure, is in the middle of the pond in the park. The trail leading to the garden is a densely populated cherry bush. We visited the park in the off-spring season, and it was less colourful, but the atmosphere was tranquil and peaceful, and the pond nearby had turtles and fish.

Many networks of walking trails in the garden lead to various parks and leisure locations with lots of fun for the family. We could cover only some aspects of the garden areas with limited time.

Trees produce oxygen, and we don’t appreciate things given to us freely. Buddha attained enlightenment under a Bodhi tree (fig tree). Sir Isaac Newton discovered Gravity under an apple tree. Relaxing under a tree in a well-manicured park provides ample clean air to reinvigorate our body and mind.
