Brooklyn Bridge Park

New York is a city that never sleeps. In the city’s heart, you see high-rise buildings reaching the sky. For the high-rise apartment residents, parks and other leisure activities are a breadth of fresh air. I am unsure whether people can have BBQs in their apartments. Vacant open space is a luxury, and fresh air is scarce. My daughter’s apartment is full of pot plants of wide varieties.

There was a continuous beep of the smoke alarm when I cooked a meal for our family in my daughter’s 30th-floor apartment, regardless of frying or plain cooking. Once, I made dosas, a sort of pancakes from urad dhal, and the smoke alarm went off nonstop. I had to turn off the cooker, but the alarm went on for a few more minutes. I panicked that a fire engine could turn up any moment.

Apartments may have a common in-house recreational area with BBQ burners, but it may not provide the peace and happiness offered by an open BBQ area. Parks are in every nook and corner of New York City. For people who live in high-rise apartments, parks offer solace, peace, and joy.

Brooklyn Bridge Park is a massive park on the Brooklyn side of the East River in New York. It is an oasis for the folks living in the neighbouring apartments.

We strolled along the footpath, enjoying the sun and the breeze. Benches with handrails and backseats stretched on one side of the trail under beautiful, lush green trees. I imagine, on weekends and evenings, people would relax on the benches.

A few families enjoyed their picnic in the BBQ areas. There are rules for the BBQ- BBQs are allowed in designated areas, a one-hour limit per grill when people are waiting, and each party is allowed to use one grill top.

The soccer grounds in Pier 5 had many teams playing on that day. It looked busy with players all around the grounds. Outside the Soccer grounds, people were jogging, walking, talking, and sitting on the benches. We could see the Statue of Liberty at a distance while we rested on a bench.

ONE°15 Brooklyn Marina offers water access to the local community and tourists by providing boats. The marina promotes recreational boating and on-water educational programs.

After a few hours in the park enjoying sightseeing and the East River, we headed back home along the trees-strewn streets. Big trees provided a canopy for small and young trees at various points. The roads were less busy, and a few hawkers sold their wares.

The shoes I wore made me tired, and I bought a pair of new durable shoes the next day. Cars and other vehicles on the streets are sturdy and hardy. Some of the buildings are very old and strong.

Brooklyn Bridge Park is an 85-acre area. We covered a minuscule area on the first-day outing – Pier 5 and a little further. Lots of amenities are available in Piers 1-3. Children’s playgrounds, cafes, and many more activities. Take a stroll along the footpath, mindful of other pedestrians, cyclists, and runners, and relax on a bench enjoying the spectacular city buildings on the opposite side.
